Vaughan McCall

Vaughan is the First Vice President of TAAGS:

Vaughan McCall is a seasoned genealogical researcher, nonprofit leader, and land record specialist whose life’s work is grounded in the pursuit of historical truth and ancestral reclamation for African American communities. As the 1st Vice President of The African American Genealogical Society and founder of Quantum Abstract Service LLC, Vaughan brings over two decades of expertise in property title abstracting, land assessment, and archival research to the critical task of Black family history restoration.

Currently serving as an Assistant County Assessor at the Nassau County Department of Assessment, Vaughan is deeply familiar with the complexity and inaccessibility of historical land records, especially those related to African Americans whose histories have often been erased or obscured through systemic marginalization. When volunteering, he uncovers property data but reweaves the narratives of families fragmented by land dispossession, and migration.

As a licensed New York State Notary Public, Certified Title Insurance Producer, and Certified Signing Agent with the National Notary Association, Vaughan applies his technical skill with a mission rooted in justice: to help African American families locate, verify, and reclaim their ancestral ties through the land—an often-overlooked but vital part of Black legacy and autonomy. His genealogical work has shed light on the overlooked social and historical significance of Black land ownership, revealing how tracing deeds can unlock stories of resilience, resistance, and rootedness.

Vaughan is particularly passionate about uplifting the legacy of Joysetta and Julius Pearse, pioneers in Black genealogy, and continues to build on their foundation by helping others find belonging and identity through historical research. His scholarship and public service reflect a deep belief in the transformative power of Black historical consciousness and community empowerment.

In addition to his genealogical and land research roles, Vaughan serves as the Treasurer of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Committee of Nassau County, where he supports initiatives that honor the civil rights legacy and promote equity and assists Nassau County High School Seniors in continuing their education with college scholarships.

Vaughan is an alumnus of Freeport High School and SUNY Old Westbury and has continued his education through a variety of accredited institutions and professional licensing programs. Beyond his professional life, Vaughan is a devoted husband to Karen McCall, proud father of Cory, Andrea, and Vaughan Jr., and a loving grandfather to three grandchildren.

Vaughan’s personal interests are as rich as his professional ones: he finds joy in reading history, religion, and politics; stargazing; tending his garden; enjoying music and sports; and diving deep into old maps, census rolls, and historical property records. Through all his endeavors, Vaughan is fueled by a singular mission: to recover, protect, and celebrate the sacred legacy of Black land, lineage, and liberation—one record, one story, and one family at a time.
