Arlene Richards, Secretary – The African Atlantic Genealogical Society

Arlene Richards is a committed and purpose-driven professional who brings both heart and precision to her role as Secretary of the African Atlantic Genealogical Society. A devoted daughter, sister, mother, friend, and lifelong advocate, Arlene exemplifies what it means to live in service to others. With a career spanning customer service, relationship management, and administrative support in both corporate and legal environments, Arlene has cultivated a keen attention to detail and a strong ethic of care—qualities essential for her vital role in organizational record-keeping and communications.

Previously, Arlene dedicated her time as a volunteer helping recently released individuals prepare for reentry into the workforce, guiding them through job interview processes and offering support at a critical turning point in their lives. This experience reflects her deep belief in second chances, collective upliftment, and the transformative power of community.

Professionally, she has held key positions at one of Nassau County’s top property tax reduction law firms and more recently at Canon Inc., where she supported sales team operations across various functions. These roles sharpened her organizational skills and reinforced her passion for maintaining systems that promote transparency, accountability, and growth.

As Secretary of the African Atlantic Genealogical Society, Arlene ensures the integrity and accuracy of the organization’s records, documents board minutes with clarity and care, manages leadership communications, and contributes to the historical timeline of the organization’s development and impact. Her stewardship of information serves as a safeguard and a foundation for collective memory and vision.

Arlene’s passion for Black culture and genealogy stems from her recognition that Black people, across the diaspora, represent one of the most multifaceted, talented, and gifted communities in the world. She firmly believes that our shared history holds the power to unify, inspire, and propel us forward—and that we are strongest when we move together.

Outside of her professional commitments, Arlene finds joy in traveling, laughing with loved ones, and making lasting memories. Her optimism, resilience, and eagerness to learn continue to shape her approach to leadership and community building. Arlene sees every challenge as an opportunity in disguise and brings that same spirit into her service at the TAAGS—where the past meets the present to illuminate the path ahead.
